Bixby’s owners are in the Air Force and will be stationed overseas for the next 2 years. Bixby is an essential member of their household and they are hoping that someone will love and care for him while they are away.
The owners would prefer Bixby to stay within a 6-hour drive from Salt Lake, UT, but might consider further for the right family.
FUR FACTS:
- Male, German Shepard
- 2 years old, 90 pounds
- Medium energy
- House trained, pulls slightly on the leash
- Not crate trained
- Loves all people, children of all ages, and other dogs
- Submissive, no aggressive tendencies
FUN FACTS:
Bixby would be the perfect companion for anyone that loves the outdoors. Bixby enjoys long walks and hiking and could be the ideal running buddy with some encouragement. He loves meeting new people and pets while out walking, so he still pulls on a leash a little because he is excited to meet them. The owner states while she rides a bike, Bixby runs alongside her.
Bixby is not destructive by nature, but if left alone for too long, he might chew on things lying around. Since he is not crate trained but has anxiety when left too long and might chew, they would like the person to work from home or not to be left for more than 5 or 6 hours by himself. Bixby can be shy and cautious but primarily curious. He is anxious about fireworks, crowds of people, and busy streets with many cars. No aggression over food, toys, or other animals. He has shown some herding tendencies and mouthing hands.
Bixby is a pretty mellow dog that loves all people and children of all ages. The owner said she might keep an eye on him with toddlers because he might knock them over. Bixby gets along with other dogs and is untested with cats. When he sees cats on the trail, he is interested but not aggressive towards them. Bixby also has a very low prey drive, so they think he might be okay with cats. Will bark at first when getting used to a new area or house when the person leaves the house. He can escape a crate, but may be left in a space unsupervised over time.
