While he does have spurts of energy, he’s all about the snuggles, and since Todd is a big “people” dog, there will be plenty of opportunities for Todd to get the pets and attention he deserves. He loves everyone – from strangers to babies to cats and easy-going dogs. His owner says he’s a very easy dog to care for. He’s a lot like an old soul, even though he’s only 5.
If you are on the sofa, he’s there for you, wanting to be petted. He’s very relaxed and laid back, and on occasion, goofy. If you aren’t giving him attention, he will ask for it. Todd flops over for belly rubs and displays the funniest smile when he’s content. If he’s not snuggling or sleeping, he might be found looking out the windows. He will bark when he sees other dogs but settles down quickly enough once you give him the command. Generally, he’s a pretty quiet boy.
A very polite boy, Todd will let you know he has to go out – whether he sniffs the door or comes up to you. When his owner is home for the day, he goes outside to potty in the morning, mid-day, at dinnertime, ad before bed. When at work, he misses his afternoon potty time but is fine and doesn’t have accidents. He gets a 20/30-minute walk once daily unless it’s hot, and he walks well on his leash. He is quiet on walks even if he sees other dogs.
Todd is kept in a crate during the day and sleeps in his crate at night, but he is a good boy if left out of his crate at night. He is very submissive and if he gets reprimanded, he begs for forgiveness by flopping over and showing his tummy.
Todd doesn’t play much except for fetch/keep away. When at the dog park he will engage with other dogs if they are running around, but if they ignore him, he’ll contentedly walk around, sniffing and doing his own thing. So he really feeds off the energy of the dogs he is with…*The only kind of dog/situation Todd doesn’t like is when other dogs are in his face and this is when he doesn’t want to play – and again, he’s not a big fan of playing. If that happens, he will give a warning growl and if the dog doesn’t let up or if his foster doesn’t remove him from the situation, Todd can snap at the other dog. So. long as dogs are respectful of his energy level, he gets along fine with them; another easy-going dog would be a perfect companion.
Finally, like many dogs, Todd is afraid of thunder and fireworks and will hide/huddle with you. He receives a dose of Benadryl and responds well to this medication. His owner’s return date is just a little uncertain as orders keep changing, but the owner is confident that the November time period is the likely reasonable end date.
The owner’s Need-By date is firm, so won’t you please reach out to give this easy boy a temporary home.
