Denise is a member of the US Air Force and is preparing for an overseas assignment which will take her away from her San Antonio home from 1/7/2021 – 9/7/2021. Denise is most worried about the safety and well-being of her two senior dogs while she’s away. She has teamed up with PACT to hopefully find one or two perfect homes for these special pups.
Mister is a 14 year old, 20 lbs, neutered male Papillion mix. Mister is microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations and flea/tick prevention. He sometimes takes a Benadryl for allergies, but only as needed. Mister walks well on leash and knows commands for sit, lay down, let’s go, kiss, and no. Mister does well with most other dogs, cats, and kids after a slow introduction. He can have a nervous energy at first, which sometimes puts off other dogs, and he may bark until he become accustomed to a new pet or person. Denise says, “He likes to settle next to you when you are watching TV and will become plush, falling into the crevasse of you and the pillow/cushion. He lets you pick him up and cradle him. He’ll hug you and rest his head on your shoulder. He really enjoys sitting out in the yard to admire nature. He loves to go walking and gets excited when he sees his leash, usually making funny sounds and sneezes. He’ll play with you if you try to grab his paws or give him a toy. He’s also really good at bath time and with the vet. Overall, he is adaptable to adults and children. He does want to please.”
Zuma is a 12 year old, 40 lbs, spayed female retriever mix. She is also microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations and flea/tick prevention. Zuma has seasonal allergies, and get prescription medication in the springtime to help. Zuma can be anxious, and does best in a quiet home. Zuma may react fearfully towards other dogs and people when overstimulated, and may bark loudly or lunge, especially upon first meeting. Her foster should be prepared for these behaviors, and confident when handling her on leash. Zuma is leash, muzzle, and crate trained, and knows commands for sit, wait, leave it, drop it, and shake. Denise says, “When she’s happy, she looks for her toys and squeaks them. She also squeaks her toys before walks. You also know she is happy when she rubs against furniture, like a cat. She’ll also go through your legs like a cat. She may have picked this up as a puppy when she lived with a cat. She’ll make happy noises, kind of like growls. You know she likes you and is comfortable with you when she lets you hug her. She is typically squeamish, and is skittish around new people. She loves to cuddle up to people and other dogs when it is time to go to sleep. She’ll rest her head on a person’s leg or on the body of a smaller dog (Mister). She also likes to sleep butt-to-butt. She is sneaky. If can kick her off the bed, but in the middle of the night, when you are asleep, she’ll jump up and you’ll wake up with her by your side. She can jump super high when excited. She’ll tilt her head when you are talking to her (especially when asking her a question in a high voice), as if she is trying to understand you. She follows her person around the house.”
