Placement dates: 5/15/22-12/29/23* (Owner prefers placement in April but can wait until May)

Desired placement location: Currently in a kennel in Iowa. Foster homes in IO and IL are ideal. Willing to consider foster homes elsewhere but distance may be an issue due to timing. Willing to accept offers of transport from foster.

The owner is in the Army, training in the US. Will be deployed/PCA to Qatar.

Fur Facts:

  • Dog, Husky, approx. 1 yrs old, 45lbs. Medium “Husky” energy, Healthy.
  • Loves people. Can live with dogs and children over 5 yrs old. No exposure to cats. Fine with fireworks & thunderstorms.

Fun Facts:

If you are a Husky lover, you will love Yuri! According to his dad, he is a typical Husky – very energetic, a little wild (that seems to be settling down a bit now that he’s neutered), and playful. To manage his energy, dad takes him to the dog park daily for about an hour. While he has not been to doggie daycare, his owner will consider it (depending on the cost) and says he will likely do well because he is very well socialized and loves other dogs. An ideal home for Yuri will have at least one other playmate and a yard in which to run around. Yuri LOVES to cuddle and is very playful. He sleeps on his owner’s bed or on the floor; he can be crated overnight.

He’s never lived with children but interacts with them at the dog park; due to his energy & enthusiasm, kids older than five are preferred so he doesn’t knock them over with his rough play (this also applies to his ideal playmates – small-medium sized, not tiny). Little kids might also perceive his typical Husky vocalizing as aggression and be scared, but he is a sweet dog.

Note that while Yuri has never jumped a fence, he likely COULD make it over a 4′ high fence; with that in mind, his owner has never left him outside unsupervised for more than 1 hr. This young man could also get in trouble when his foster opens the door – since Yuri is so energetic and likes to run, he stands a chance of escaping, so you would have to be careful in this situation. Yuri will, on occasion, chew items left within his reach (shoes, remote control), but dad says it is random and infrequent, and stuffed toys are beloved by him but do not last long (eye-roll).

Finally, he is housetrained, but his owner says that if he is left alone for more than an hour, he can poop inside; dad keeps him in a crate during the day.

If you are looking for a little bit of puppy/Husky energy in your life, consider giving this sweet, loving boy a chance!
