Matthew is a member of the US Army who is currently overseas on assignment and is scheduled to be home on or around 10/18/2020. His wife, children, and dogs were all happily at home and looking forward to his safe return, when unfortunately his wife became ill and required surgery and care. Now the family is doing their best getting pet sitters and neighbors to look in on their pups, but it’s becoming a bit too much for the family to take on financially. PACT is hoping to find a great home for Shep and Hope for just the remaining 1.5 months of Matthew’s assignment, near their home in Ft. Drum, NY. Can you offer these special pups a place to stay?
Shep is an 8 year old, 65lbs, neutered male Australian Shepherd/Collie mix. He is microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Shep knows how to sit on command, but will require a strong handler on leash, as he is a puller. Shep loves belly rubs and being with his people. He can be nervous around bicycles, men he doesn’t know, and intact male dogs. Shep can be a little dog-selective, but typically does very well when a proper dog introduction is performed, and slow intros are continued throughout his stay. Matthew says, “Shep is very loyal, loving and will lay near you wherever you are. He loves his people and loves belly rubs. He is a rescue, so he has his quirks but overall he just wants to be loved and be with people. The perfect foster home for Shep would be someone who understands rescues and can help him adapt, and reassure him. He has met dogs that he loves and he has also met dogs when not introduced properly, who he can be unsure of. He would do best with someone who can understand how to immerse him and help him as he adjusts. He doesn’t require walks, and he is not high energy. He can stay in a gated off area for 4-5 hours at a time, if needed… and will sleep in if that’s what they like to do.”
Hope is a 7 year old, 4 lbs, spayed female Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix. She is microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Hope doesn’t have any obedience training, but is an adorable and wonderful companion in the family’s home. Matthew says, “Hope loves to be cuddled up in blankets, she loves to lay by you, and when she warms up to you she does like to be held.” The best foster home would be one that can keep an eye on her and be aware of her, as she is extra-small! Hope and Shep both do well with children, but don’t have much experience with other dogs and cats.
