Christopher is a member of the US Air Force who is preparing for a 13 month long overseas assignment from 10/15/2020 – 11/18/2021. None of Christopher’s family or friends are available to care for his two dogs, Kes and Nelix, near their home in Panama City, FL. PACT is hoping to find an active family to care for the pups while Christopher is serving overseas.
Kes is a 3 year old, 35lbs, spayed female Lab/Beagle mix. Kes is microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Kes is crate and leash trained and knows commands for sit, lay down, speak, stay, and “where’s the ball?” Kes is an adorable and quirky little pup! Christopher says, “Kes will protect treats/wet food/human food but she has to be extremely cornered before growling, she prefers to take it and hide/run. Her fears are very mild usually, she’ll back away, maybe bark, try to hide if scary thing is too scary, but this is rare. She does have lots of weird fears; standing lamps moving, speaker stands moving, unexpected new items laying around, hampers, etc. If she didn’t see someone come in, she’ll be scared/bark if she finds someone new in the house. She’ll “boop” different things (touch/push slightly with her nose)like the standing lamps, tv dinner tables, and then be scared when they move (moved because she booped it) and she’s scared of her own leash if it’s dropped behind her and it “starts chasing” her. Kes is obsessed about a certain type of ball, tennis balls are invisible to her, but this kind of ball is her best friend. She’ll carry it around, try to have you play fetch any time you go out, prefers going to get it over staying with most treats. She will often demand pets by pawing at me, and she insists on sleeping under my sheets sometimes, but will sleep over the sheets most times, too. She’ll randomly boop things to make sure they won’t move when she boops it, which scares her a little when they move.”
Nelix is a 6 year old, 75lbs, neutered male Labrador mix. He is also microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations, and flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Nelix also takes a daily oral medication to manage some mild hip pain. He is crate and leash trained and knows commands for sit, stay, shake, lay down, roll over, get it, and come. Nelix does well with other dogs when meeting, but can become agitated in the yard if he knows there’s another dog behind the fence that he can’t see. Christopher says, “He loves tug of war and keep away. He’ll bring over and show you a toy occasionally wanting to keep away and tug of war for it. He also likes to bother his sister when she’s fetching. He’s terrible at fetch. He likes to sunbathe but also doesn’t like being outside alone too long so this can become a game of doorman. Likes to lounge around with his legs up. One of his favorite things is being a lap dog (a heavy lap dog). He is obsessed about human food, will start drooling as soon as i’m eating and will helpfully guard my kitchen or grill when i’m cooking to ensure no one steals what i’m cooking, this could also be him supervising, we’ve never discussed it. Nelix could be fostered by anyone as long as they give him some attention and treats he’ll love anybody. He’s much more of a person dog than a dog’s dog.”
